Community Service &
Self-Sufficiency

We have a new ROSS program.  ROSS is an exciting HUD funded program that empowers and equips residents in Public Housing with the skills, tools, resources and services needed to achieve economic independence, also known as self sufficiency. Our ROSS Service Manager will provide resource referrals and supportive services that will enable the family to increase their earned income, reduce or eliminate their need for government assistance, make progress toward achieving economic independence and housing self sufficiency, or in the case of the elderly or disabled residents, help improve living conditions and enable residents to age-in-place.

The Cocoa Housing Authority has been providing a variety of training and education classes to help promote self-sufficiency. This will also give our Residents the ability to contribute eight (8) community service hours monthly, which is part of our public housing policy.   The opportunities for community service are as follows:

  • Parenting sessions
  • Crime Watch
  • Monthly Resident Meetings
  • Habitat for Humanity – info sessions
  • Community Housing Initiative – first time home buyer sessions
  • Cooking classes
  • CareerSource of Brevard – workshops and training
  • Goodwill Industries – job club, resume building, training
  • Wealth Building sessions – financial education, budgeting and more
  • Brevard Emergency Management – hurricane awareness sessions
